Port Charlotte 16 Year Old is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich Distillery, bottled in 2020 at 55.8% ABV. The release comprised 3,000 bottles. Maturation began in refill hogsheads, with recasking into first-fill bourbon barrels in 2012 and some portions moving to ex-Sauternes casks in 2013. Ex-sherry, ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks also feature in its maturation.
Citrus, apricot, dried fig and berries meet cinnamon, thyme and oak on the nose. The creamy palate brings honeyed peach, dark chocolate, nutmeg and candied ginger, followed by a lingering finish of smoky vanilla, earthy peat and salted caramel.
