Port Charlotte PMC:01 is a peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, bottled at 54.5% ABV. It is the sixth release in the Cask Exploration series, distilled in 2013 from 100% Concerto barley malted to 40 parts per million of peat.
The spirit spent four years in bourbon casks before moving in 2017 to Pomerol wine casks for a further five years. It is the first time Port Charlotte spirit has been matured in Pomerol casks, from Bordeaux's right bank.
The nose offers warm peat smoke, red fruits, stewed pears, melon and a sea breeze, with roses, geranium, vanilla, honey and toasted oak. On the palate, malt sugar and peat smoke meet a viscous texture and a balance of oak and juicy blackberries.
