The 13th Annual Release of Port Ellen is an official bottling from Diageo's Annual Special Releases, drawn from a distillery that is now closed. This Islay single malt is 34 years old, distilled in 1978 and bottled in 2013 at a natural cask strength of 55% ABV, in a 70cl bottle.
The nose brings brine, lemon juice, engine oil, tar and paraffin, with cold cigar smoke. Water draws out burnt wood and green tobacco. The palate is lemony, with pepper and bitter herbs, and with water turns to brown sugar and sweet barley. The finish is long and smooth, with smoked cider and smoked, salted fish.
