This is a Port Ellen 1978 20 Year Old from the Rare Malts Selection, distilled in 1978 and bottled by Diageo in 1998 at a cask strength of 60.9%. Port Ellen is a silent distillery on the Isle of Islay.
The nose combines ripe pear, dried apricot, blackcurrant with nutmeg, and fresh thyme with aged oak. The palate offers honey and dark chocolate, toasted almond and briny sea spray, in a creamy texture. The finish is long, with sweet vanilla and salty caramel.
