The first release in the Port Ellen Annual Releases series, distilled in 1979 and bottled in 2001 after 22 years of maturation. It is a natural cask strength Islay single malt at 56.2% ABV in a 70cl bottle, from an outturn of 6000 bottles. Port Ellen closed in 1983. Tasting notes describe a dark straw colour and a nose of tyres, tar and pepper, with apple, green pear and green plum, then wet fern, moss and wet chalk. The palate is austere, with tar, rubber and strong pepper, drying to smoke and lemon zest, and the finish is very long.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
