Port Ellen – 23 Year Old 1982 - Douglas Laing Old & Rare Platinum Selection is a single malt whisky from Port Ellen (Islay). Aged 23 years, bottled at 55.1% ABV, 70cl. Port Ellen Distillery was opened in 1824, it was built by Alexander Mackay on the site of a malt mill. Quite different from the rest of its neighbours on the Islay Southern Coast, Port Ellen provides a highly maritime nature and a sharp lemon spell, light tar and some oiliness in the texture. The distillery operated for over 150 years, but it wasn't until its closure in 1983 that it received a huge amount of love and respect. With the first of the Annual Releases launched in 2001, Port Ellen has become extremely sought after across the globe. A single cask bottling from the closed Port Ellen on Islay. Distilled in September 1982, which is lucky for us because production was ceased before the distillery was eventually closed in 1983. November 2005 was the chosen year for bottling by Douglas Laing as part of their Old and Rare Platinum Selection. These 121 bottles were matured and bottled at a strength of 55.1% ABV.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
