Port Ellen – 2nd Release 1978 24 Year Old (59.4%)

This is the second release of Port Ellen, an Islay single malt distilled in 1978 and bottled in 2002 at 59.35% after 24 years in cask. Port Ellen was founded on the south coast of Islay in 1825. DCL acquired it in 1925 and closed it in 1929, though the site kept working as a maltings and warehouse until the distillery reopened in 1966-67. It closed again at the end of 1983, and this whisky was distilled in the years between.
