This is the twelfth Special Release Port Ellen, an official bottling from the long closed Islay distillery. It is a numbered limited edition in a 70cl bottle at a natural cask strength of 52.5% ABV.
The whisky is a vatting of refill American and European oak matured spirit distilled in 1979. At 32 years old, it was at release the joint oldest official bottling of Port Ellen.
The nose is complex and led by tar, with camphor, almonds, old coal stove, shellfish and seaweed. The palate is resinous and briny, with wax, lemon and a little tropical fruit. The finish is long, almondy, liquoricy and salty.
