Port Ellen – 3rd Release 1979 24 Year Old (57.3%)

This is the third release of Port Ellen, an Islay single malt distilled in 1979 and bottled in 2003 at 57.3% after 24 years in cask. The distillery stood on the south coast of Islay and was founded in 1825. John Ramsay took it over in 1836, and in 1848 it became the first distillery to trade with North America. Port Ellen closed at the end of 1983, and this whisky was made in the years after it reopened in 1966-67.
