Port Ellen 8th Release is the eighth annual Diageo Special Release, a single malt from Islay's Port Ellen distillery, which was founded in 1825 and closed in 1983. It was distilled in 1978, matured for 29 years and bottled in 2008 at 55.3% natural cask strength, in an outturn of 6,618 bottles.
The palate combines gentle peat smoke and coastal salinity with baked apple, bright citrus, creamy vanilla and earthy spice. The finish is long and smoky, with lingering mineral and coastal notes.
