Port Ellen – 9th Release 1979 Bottled 2009 (70cl, 57.7%)

Port Ellen 9th Release is an Islay single malt from the distillery founded in 1825, which ceased production in 1983. It is the ninth annual Diageo Special Release and was the first official 30 year old Port Ellen. The whisky was distilled in 1979 and bottled in 2009 at a natural cask strength of 57.7%, in a 70cl bottle. The outturn was 5,916 bottles. It is described as showing coastal salt, medicinal peat smoke and waxy malt, with bright lemon, pear and honey, and warming pepper developing slowly.
