Port Ellen 30 Year Old is the 9th release in Diageo's 2009 Special Releases. It was distilled in 1979 and bottled in 2009 at a natural cask strength of 57.7%, as part of an outturn of 5,916 bottles.
The nose is grass, soaked barley, smoked porridge and diesel oil, with shoe polish and a little eucalyptus. With water it turns more maritime, with oysters, sea breeze, almonds and a little camphor. The palate is dry, grassy and smoky, with lemon, mineral notes and phenolic, resinous tones. Water makes it very dry, with smoke and ashes.
