A fortified port wine from Cruz, made mainly from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca grown on the steep hills of the Douro in Portugal. It matures for some years in oak casks. It has an intense, deep ruby colour. The nose offers ripe red fruits such as cherry and plum, with chocolate and light spice reminiscent of cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate it is rich and velvety, with balanced sweetness, fresh acidity and soft tannin, leading to a long finish with liquorice, tobacco and bitter cocoa. Serve slightly chilled, between 12 and 16 degrees.
