Powers Gold Label is a blended Irish whiskey made at Midleton Distillery in County Cork. It combines single pot still and grain whiskey, is triple distilled and is bottled at 43.2% ABV in a 750ml bottle without chill filtration.
The pot still component is described as aged five to seven years in second- and third-fill bourbon casks, and it makes up roughly 70% of the blend. The recipe uses a tighter heart cut than other Powers whiskeys, with more of the top and tail discarded, which concentrates the spice.
Warm spice leads the nose, with cinnamon, clove oil and white pepper over russet apple, pear and charred oak. The palate brings cinnamon, green pepper, nutmeg, orchard fruit and vanilla, and the finish is long, easing into barley, toasted wood and honey.
