Red Spot 15 Year Old is a triple-distilled single pot still Irish whiskey from Midleton Distillery in County Cork, bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration in a 750ml bottle. The Spot name goes back to Mitchell & Son, a Dublin merchant that marked casks with coloured spots, red denoting the longest-aged.
Three separate parcels of spirit are each matured for the full 15 years in American ex-bourbon barrels, Spanish sherry casks and Italian Marsala wine casks, then married together.
The nose combines white pepper and warm grain with baked apple, mango and black cherry. The palate offers candied orange peel, pineapple and custard, and the finish is very long, with stone fruit and spice.
