Redwood Empire Lost Monarch is a blended straight whiskey from California, in a 750ml bottle at 45% ABV. It combines house-distilled and sourced rye whiskeys with older bourbon stocks, all aged in high-char American oak casks.
The blend is 60% rye whiskey aged 3 to 5 years, made from a 95% rye mash bill, and 40% bourbon aged 4 to 12 years. It is named after the Lost Monarch, a giant redwood 320 feet tall.
The colour is dark amber with a slight orange cast. The aroma brings clove, cinnamon, vanilla, orange zest, butterscotch and a hint of sandalwood. On the palate, corn sweetness and rye spice meet a flavour close to maple syrup, and the finish is vanilla and caramel with a persistent but gentle pepper.
