Ricard is a pastis created by Paul Ricard in 1932, sold here in a 70cl bottle. Pastis is recognised in EU law as a spirit category of its own, and its roots go back to a time when herbs and spices were used in medicines.
The main ingredients are star anise from South-East Asia and liquorice root. The herb and spice blend is macerated in quality alcohol, then mixed with water and sugar to reach the right strength.
