Römigberg Schiava 2020

A red wine from Alois Lageder, made from Schiava grown on the Römigberg vineyard north-west of Lake Caldaro. The vines, up to 76 years old, are biodynamically farmed and Demeter-certified, on steep south and south-east facing slopes at 250-330 metres above sea level. The soil is mainly glacial deposits with Dolomite rock fragments. After a long fermentation on the skins in wood and steel, the wine matures for about six months in the same vessels. The wine is light ruby in colour. It shows raspberry, bird cherry, redcurrant, rose and dog rose on the nose, with fresh plum, pomegranate and lingonberry on the palate. The finish has mineral, flinty notes, fruit and tannin.
