Royal Salute 21 Year Old Rio de Janeiro Polo Edition (70cl, 40%)

This is a limited edition from Royal Salute, part of its Polo Collection. It is a blended Scotch whisky, not a blended malt, aged for at least 21 years and bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle by Chivas Brothers. Part of the blend comes from first-fill casks holding Braeval whisky, which adds a floral, fragrant note. Components matured in American oak bring creamy vanilla and coconut. It has no added colouring. The nose offers poached pear, roasted pineapple and lime sweets with vanilla cream, candied walnut and toasted wood. On the palate, honeydew melon and tart green apple meet coconut, toffee, white chocolate and salted caramel, with cinnamon and cardamom. The finish is sweet, complex and spicy.
