Royal Salute 21 Year Old The Sapphire Flagon is the Signature Blend from Chivas Brothers, bottled at 40% ABV and presented in a 750ml hand crafted Wade porcelain flagon in sapphire blue.
Master blender Charles Julian created it in 1953 for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and the name refers to the 21 gun royal salute. The malt and grain whiskies in the blend are all matured for at least 21 years in oak, and the recipe has not changed since 1953.
The tasting notes describe sweet pears and citrus with autumn flowers, vanilla, dry oak, sherry and a wisp of smoke. Orange marmalade, spice and hazelnut follow on the palate, and the finish is long, dry and slightly spicy.
