Rum Nation Guatemala XO 20th Anniversary

This is an aged Guatemalan rum released in a limited edition and presented in a decanter to mark Rum Nation's 20 years. It is made from molasses from Guatemalan sugar cane, distilled in a column still, then aged in the tropical heat of Rio Hondo in former bourbon casks. The rum then travels to Italy for a further 16 months in Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez casks, a finish that adds a fruitier, more winey edge. The nose is delicate but rich, with honey, ripe dates, vanilla, chocolate and plenty of raisin. The palate is creamy and sweet, with butter cake, dried plums, cola, toasted nuts and a hint of orange. The finish is warm, with sweet liquorice, wine and raisin.
