Sandeman 30 Year Old Tawny Port (75cl, 20%)

Sandeman 30 Year Old Tawny is an aged tawny Port from the Douro, Portugal, bottled at 20% vol in a 75cl bottle. It is a blend of wines aged in small oak casks, with component wines of roughly 25 to 40 years old, and the 30 years is an average rather than a vintage. Sandeman, founded in 1790, matures its tawnies in pipas at its lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia, where slow oxidation turns the wine from ruby to amber-gold. It pours old gold amber. The nose is intense honey and spice, and the palate brings dried apricot, hazelnut and vanilla, rich yet elegant. The finish is long and nutty.
