Savage & Cooke Second Glance is an American whiskey finished in Japanese Mizunara oak barrels and bottled at 50% ABV. It is made by Dave Phinney, the winemaker behind Prisoner Wine, at a distillery on Mare Island in Vallejo, California.
The base is a well-aged blended American whiskey, chosen for its density and sweetness. The Mizunara finish then adds sandalwood, incense and Eastern spice.
On the nose there is maple wood, cardamom, buttery toast, black cherry and light incense. The palate offers honey, caramel, hazelnut, baked dark fruits and sandalwood. The finish is long, with Mizunara spice, dark fruit and a warm oak fade.
