Sazerac Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, bottled at 45% in a 1.75-litre bottle. It takes its name from the Sazerac cocktail, first mixed in New Orleans in the mid-1800s.
The mashbill is about 51% rye, 39% corn and 10% malted barley, a lower rye content than many American ryes, with added sweetness from the corn.
The nose offers vanilla, baking spice, clove, anise and black pepper. On the palate, cinnamon and caramel lead to rye spice, crumb cake and candied orange zest. The finish is crisp and dry at medium length, with anise and orange-blossom honey.
