Sazerac Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey made at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort and bottled at 45%. It is aged in new charred American oak barrels. It once carried a six-year age statement but is now sold without one.
The nose opens with clove and black pepper, then vanilla and anise, lifted by orange zest. The palate is spicy, with caramel and raisin at the centre, then building pepper, cool mint and a touch of pine. The finish is medium and gently warming, with licorice and light oak tannins fading to a clean, dry close.
