Sazerac Straight Rye Whisky

Sazerac Straight Rye Whisky is an American rye whisky tied to the history of New Orleans. Rye of this kind dates back to the 1800s, when saloons disguised as coffee houses were springing up in the city's streets. At the Sazerac Coffee House on Royal Street, the local upper class was served toddies made with rye whisky and Peychaud's bitters. The mixed drink became known as the Sazerac, regarded as America's first cocktail. The nose has clove, vanilla, anise, citrus and pepper. The palate is subtle with spice and citrus, then bitter orange, dark chocolate and black tea. The finish is smooth, with hints of liquorice and a peppery tingle.
