Scout by Leo 2023 Ancient Bush Vine Zinfandel is a red wine made from 100% Zinfandel from the Ling Estate Vineyard in the Mokelumne River AVA, in the south-western part of Lodi. The vines are over 80 years old and grown in bushvine style without pruning or other intervention. The grapes are hand-picked slightly earlier than usual, then fermented in large wooden vats on native yeasts. Forty per cent matures for four months in used European oak barrels, while sixty per cent rests for seven months in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled unfiltered. It shows blackberry and loganberry, white pepper and sage, with medium body, good freshness and a spicy, sweet, long finish of dark berries.
