Seelbach's Private Reserve Bourbon Finished in Amburana Barrels Batch 4 (75cl, 58%)

This is a Kentucky bourbon from the independent bottler Seelbach's, released as Batch 4 of its Private Reserve range. It was aged for 6 years and 2 months, then finished for 10 days in second-use toasted Amburana barrels. The mash bill is 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley, distilled in Bardstown, and it is bottled at barrel strength, 58% ABV, in a 75cl bottle. Batch 4 comprises 1,284 bottles. Amburana is a Brazilian wood, and here it adds cinnamon-roll aromatics, holiday spice and a confectionary sweetness to the bourbon beneath. The tasting notes describe cinnamon rolls, vanilla frosting and buttery pastry on the nose. The palate brings dried cherry, banana bread and toasted almonds, and the long finish moves between sweetness and cigar box with aged tobacco.
