Shenk's Homestead 2020 Sour Mash Whiskey

Shenk's Homestead 2020 is a sour mash whiskey made with a substantial amount of rye. It is the third release to use Chinquapin oak barrels for part of the maturation, following the 2018 and 2019 editions. The Chinquapin oak was air dried and seasoned naturally for over three years, then charred at various levels before it was used for ageing some of the whiskey. The result is described as balanced, with an elegant body. It is dark golden amber in colour. The nose offers brown sugar, baking spice and fresh citrus, and the palate brings sweet caramel with hints of nutmeg, cloves and dried fruit. The finish is smooth, with lingering citrus and gentle oak.
