Shenk's Homestead 2026 is a Kentucky sour mash whiskey from Michter's Legacy Series, bottled at 45.6% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The name looks back to John Shenk, who founded a distillery in Pennsylvania in 1753 that later became known as Michter's.
The 2026 recipe leans towards rye, and Master Distiller Dan McKee added caramel malted barley to bring a caramel bread pudding note. Some of the matured whiskey was finished in toasted-only French oak from the Vosges forest, air-dried for 24 months and never charred.
The nose offers caramel, honey, vanilla, toasted oak and baking spice. The palate brings brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and light fruit with a warm sour mash character. The finish is medium to long, with oak, spice and caramel sweetness.
