This is a lightly peated Japanese blended malt from Shinobu, in a 70cl bottle. The distillery is in Niigata prefecture, known for snow, rice and sake. Shinobu means tolerance, and the distillery aims to carry the spirit of the Samurai into its whisky. It matured first in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks, then in Japanese Mizunara oak. The nose shows mint, lemon and light peat. The palate is peaty, with smoke, charcoal and a pinch of salt. The finish is persistent, with toasted wood.
