Solaia is a Tuscan red from Marchesi Antinori, regarded as the first of the so-called Super Tuscans. The 2021 is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese in the blend.
The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed, then moved by gravity into conical fermentation tanks of 60 hectolitres. The must goes by gravity again into small barriques for malolactic fermentation, followed by 18 months in French oak. The Antinori family's winemaking history is traced back to 1385, and 2021 was a healthy, generally excellent vintage across Tuscany.
