This is a 46-year-old blended Scotch from House of Hazelwood, bottled at 43.6% in a 70cl bottle. The blend was first created in 1994 to mark the 500th anniversary of the first recorded reference to Scotch, found in the 1494 Exchequer Rolls of Scotland.
Since it was blended, it has spent a further 28 years in an American oak hogshead.
The nose is warming, with syrup, treacle and baking aromas alongside notes of manuscript paper and old books. The palate shows a hint of smoke and bright lemon pie, and the finish is long and smooth.
