Springbank – 11 Year Old Local Barley, Edition 2023 (70cl, 55.1%)

This is Springbank 11 Year Old from the Local Barley series, which uses barley grown near the distillery. The barley here is the Belgravia variety from Glencraigs Farm. It was distilled in May 2011 and bottled in December 2022 at 55.1%. The whisky matured in ex-sherry casks for 55% of its volume, ex-bourbon casks for 35% and an ex-rum cask for the remaining 10%. The nose is fruity, with papaya, mango, lemon and a subtle floral note. On the palate, citrus continues alongside honey and pear eau de vie, with a salty, mineral note developing over time. The finish brings gentle peat smoke.
