Springbank 16 Year Old Local Barley is a Campbeltown single malt from the distillery's Local Barley series, distilled in September 1999 and bottled in 2016 at a natural strength of 54.3%. Only 9,000 bottles were produced, and this one is in a 70cl bottle.
The barley is Prisma, grown at Low Machrimore Farm on the Kintyre Peninsula. The whisky matured in 80% ex-bourbon and 20% ex-sherry casks.
The nose is salty sea air, soft oak and a wisp of smoke. On the palate there is sweet barley, light peat smoke and bright citrus fruit, and the finish is long and sweet, with lingering spice and a softly smoky edge.
