Springbank – 24 Years Old Scoma 1993 (50cl, 49%)

This Springbank is a single cask Campbeltown malt, bottled by Glenscoma for the 40th anniversary of the German whisky shop Scoma. It was distilled on 23 April 1993 and matured for 24 years in a refill sherry cask, number 11. It was bottled on 27 March 2018 at 49% ABV, and the outturn was 260 bottles in a 50cl size. The sherry influence is elegant and restrained rather than heavy, leaving the distillery's classic, earthier character in front. The nose is sherried, with lemon, beeswax, coffee, subtle smoke, polish, fresh-sawn wood, almonds and ripe pears. The palate is waxy, with soft sherry, dried fruit, maritime smoke, mint, citrus, chocolate and raisins. The finish is long, drying and earthy.
