This is the 22nd release in the annual Single Malt series from St. George Spirits of Alameda, California, bottled at 43% ABV. The mash is 100% malted barley, roasted at several levels, including pale, crystal, chocolate and German beechwood-smoked malt.
It was matured in used American and French oak barrels that previously held bourbon, apple brandy, port and Sauternes-style wine, then blended from whiskies aged roughly 4.5 to 8.5 years.
The nose brings orange and grapefruit peel, caramel, vanilla bean and malt biscuit, with hazelnut and walnut fudge behind. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with roasted barley, milk chocolate, coffee and cherry cola, moving to quince and dried stone fruit. The finish is long and warming, with dark chocolate, roasted nuts and orange zest.
