Stranahan's Blue Peak is an American single malt from a Denver distillery, made from 100% malted barley and bottled at 43% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It spends four years in new charred American oak at altitude.
The whiskey then moves to large oak solera foeders for a finishing rest. The foeders are never fully emptied, so each bottling marries with earlier whiskey, and it is cut with Rocky Mountain water. The name comes from a 13,000-foot peak above Aspen.
The nose is dried apricot, nutmeg, cinnamon toast, leather and tobacco. Butterscotch, brown sugar and baked apples lead the palate, with a cayenne warmth over toasted oak. The finish is rich and mellow, with earthy malt.
