Stranahan's Mountain Angel is a 12 year old American single malt from Colorado, matured in new charred American oak barrels. The high altitude of Denver, where it is made, led to an unusual angel's share loss during maturation. The distillery says this gave a depth of flavour and aroma comparable to a Scotch more than twice its age.
The nose is caramelised nectarine, fig paste and lavender. On the palate come blueberry compote, ginger lemon tart, raspberry cheesecake and blackberry strudel. The finish is juicy, with vanilla wafer, mature oak and maduro cigar wrapper.
