Stranahan's – Sherry Cask

Stranahan's Sherry Cask is a single malt that starts as the distillery's four-year-old Rocky Mountain Single Malt. It is then moved into 500-litre Oloroso sherry barrels for a cask finish. The barrels came from Andalusia in southern Spain and had held wine for more than 40 years before the whiskey went in. The nose is typically described as over-ripe cherry, sweet apples, raisins, almonds, leather and fresh-cut hay. On the palate there is honey, Montmorency cherries, blackcurrant and fig, with a nutty, briny note and walnut. The finish brings buttery caramel, whipped cream, brown sugar and smoked cayenne.
