Strathearn – Batch No. 2 Triple Cask Matured Single Malt (70cl, 50%)

A Highland single malt from Strathearn, the Perthshire distillery on the outskirts of Perth. Batch No. 2 is matured in three types of cask: ex-bourbon, virgin oak and ex-sherry oak. It is bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle. The distillery uses Maris Otter malt, which gives a creamy, malty new-make spirit, and it puts flavour ahead of alcohol yield. Notes describe fresh bread, pumpkin seeds, damp earth, ginger and buckwheat flour on the nose, with a little lavender. The palate shows lavender or violet sweetness, cereals and slightly peppery oak, and the fairly long finish leans towards pumpernickel.
