Strathearn – Single Malt Triple Cask Matured (50%)

This is the first single malt release from Strathearn, the Perthshire distillery that Douglas Laing took over in 2019. It is bottled at 50% ABV in an acorn-shaped bottle. The whisky was drawn from 32 bourbon, sherry and virgin oak casks. Older spirit that came with the distillery was combined with younger spirit distilled under the new ownership, overseen by head distiller Angela Brown. The nose is malted barley with soft oak. The palate is rich and viscous, with honey and buttercream, baking spices and dried apricots. The finish is long and warming, with home-baked, buttery oatcakes.
