Straw Boys is a single grain Irish whiskey from the Connacht Distillery, also known as Ballina Distillery, which was founded in 2015 in Ballina, County Mayo. It is bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle and has no added colour.
The whiskey is distilled in three copper stills designed by master distiller Robert Cassell.
The nose is intensely fruity-sweet, with orange zest, floral notes, a dusty harvest-time grain character and soft spice. On the palate, orange zest sweetness meets gentle spice, with oak in the background and a silky, soft texture. The finish stays fruity and softly spicy, with sweet, peppery notes like cubeb pepper, and later a slightly oily feel with roasted notes.
