Takamine 8 Year Old Koji is a Japanese whisky from the Shinozaki Distillery in Fukuoka, bottled at 40% in a 750ml bottle.
It is made from 100% barley fermented with koji rather than malted barley, using the Takamine Process patented by the chemist Jokichi Takamine in 1891. The spirit is double pot distilled and matured in virgin American oak and ex-bourbon casks.
The nose brings tropical fruit, banana and honey over a savoury, umami depth. The palate is lush and rounded, with vanilla, caramel and ripe fruit, and the finish is long and gently spiced, with hints of oak and roasted tea.
