Tidal Churn is an eight-year-old Talisker from the Diageo Special Releases of 2024, bottled at a cask strength of 58.7% in a 20cl bottle. Its finish takes place in Stone-Spun casks, where stones and water strip away the charred layer before the wood is lightly re-toasted. This lets more fruit and vanilla come through behind the strong maritime smoke.
The nose is soft and dry, with sea breeze, rock pools and shells alongside pear, apple and light peat smoke, and vanilla cake emerging over time. The palate is soft, creamy and full, sweet at first and turning salty, with warming pepper. The finish is long and smoky, with Szechuan pepper leaving a cooling feel.
