Templeton Midnight Rye (75cl, 45%)

Templeton Midnight Rye is a rye whiskey bottled at 45% in a 750ml bottle. It is blended and bottled at the Templeton Distillery in Iowa, from straight rye with a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, matured in virgin American oak. A touch of dark port wine is blended in directly. It is not a port barrel finish, a distinction the brand makes itself. The nose and palate bring dark berries and plum over rye spice: black pepper, caraway and cinnamon, with vanilla and oak from the new barrels. The port shows as jammy fruit through the middle of the palate, and the finish is long and warming, with berry and spice lingering.
