Tenjaku is a Japanese pure malt, a blend of malt whiskies made from 100% malted barley with no grain whisky. It is bottled at 43% in a 75cl bottle. Minami Alps Wine and Beverage Co. produces it in Fuefuki, Yamanashi Prefecture, in the Mt. Fuji basin.
The malts are double-distilled in copper pots and aged in heavily seasoned Kentucky bourbon barrels. The production water comes from 250 metres below the Misaka mountains. The name means skylark, the herald of spring in Japan.
The nose is nutty, with green apple, fresh herbs and a slight smokiness. The palate is crisp and delicate. The finish is clear and long, with vanilla giving way to understated woody notes.
