The Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak is a Speyside single malt from Dufftown, aged for 16 years in traditional oak and finished in French Pineau des Charentes casks. It is bottled at 47.6% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
Pineau des Charentes is a French aperitif from the Cognac region, made from unfermented grape juice blended with Cognac eau-de-vie. The finish adds honeyed, grape-must sweetness to the Balvenie base of vanilla and honey.
Honeyed on the nose, with fresh grape, vanilla, apricot and light brandy warmth. The palate is smooth and rounded, with grape-must sweetness, warm spice, dried fruit and honey. The finish is medium to long, with lingering honey, fruit sweetness and a soft fade of French oak.
