A 17 year old single malt from The Balvenie, bottled at 48.7%, bringing together whisky finished in two kinds of cask.
The story starts in 2001, when a heavily peated batch of barley was bought from a local supplier, distilled and left to mature. The whisky was later moved into freshly treated traditional casks. Casks that had held the peated spirit had taken on much of its character, and these were filled with 17 year old Balvenie for a short period, giving an intensely peaty whisky. It was then married with Balvenie finished in new American oak casks.
The result is a rich, spicy malt with layers of smokiness.
