A 12 year old Speyside single malt from The Balvenie, launched in 1993 and made using a wood-finishing process devised by Malt Master David Stewart in 1982. 2018 marked its 25th anniversary.
Whisky that has spent at least 12 years in traditional casks, American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads, moves to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a further nine months. It then rests in large oak tuns for three to four months so the casks marry.
The nose is sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry with honey and vanilla. The palate is smooth and mellow, with nutty sweetness, cinnamon spice and a light layer of sherry. The finish is long and warming.
